Shaping the future

Engineering touches every part of our lives; the way we communicate, the food we eat, the air we breathe, the environment we inhabit and the medical processes we rely on. And yet, its vital contribution to society is undervalued. The Royal Academy of Engineering brings together the most eminent engineers to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering. The Academy’s symbol was inspired by a Palaeolithic hand axe: the first engineering. It speaks of the relationship between people and technology, and its evolution from the dawn of human intelligence to the most recent technological developments.

I’ve just heard the president of the Académie des Technologies in France is green with envy.
